[Men's individual regional rankings]
MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon University track & field team placed nine men on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region team. Each member of the team earned their all-region selection after finishing in the top five in the region in their individual event.
Chris Reed and
Jason Slowey highlighted the Wolves' strong outdoor season by each earning multiple all-region honors.
Chris Reed captured three all-region honors as he represented Western Oregon in each of the distance races. He finished the season with the second-fastest time in the West in the 10k with a time of 29:44.77. He placed his name second in the 1,500m and the 5k, with times of 3:50.47 and 14:21.14, respectively. Reed also earned three all-region honors for Western Oregon during the indoor season
Slowey was an all-region recipient in the discus and the shot put after placing second in the West in both. He recorded a throw of 168-8 (51.41m) in the shot at the Oregon Twilight to grab his regional honor and the third place on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list. He earned his second place mark in the discus at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a throw of 55-2 (16.81m). Slowey also earned all-region honors during the indoor season in the shot put and the weight throw.
Joining Reed and Slowey as repeat winners from the indoor season was
Matt Kaino,
Connor Kasler and
Jordan Werner.
In his two seasons at Western Oregon, Kaino has made a name for himself in the 400m. He already owns the fifth-best time in school history (48.30) in the event and ran the 400m leg of the men's indoor All-American distance medley relay team, and now he has captured his second all-region honor in the race.
Kasler also earned an all-region honor as a member of that All-American distance medley relay team. He will now add an all-region honor in the 800m after running the second-fastest time in the West this outdoor season (1:51.74).
Jordan Werner backed up his indoor all-region honors in the 60m hurdles with a time 15.26 in the 110m hurdles during the outdoor season to place fourth in the region.
Brandon Snook also grabbed his season all-region award this year. He ran a time of 9:11.11 in the men's 3000m steeplechase this outdoor season to place third in the West. His time of 15:34.52 in the men's 5000m during the indoor season ranked him fifth.
First time All-West region award winners included
Ryan Chapman,
Will Crook and
Tim Lundy.
Ryan Chapman joined Snook as all-region award winner in the 3000m steeple after placing fourth in the West with a time of 9:12.74.
Will Crook registered the third-longest javelin throw in the West this outdoor season with a mark of 205-0 (62.49m). That distance has him ranked third in school history.
Tim Lundy was the ninth member of the men's squad to earn all-region honors. He cleared 15-5 (4.70m) in the pole vault to finish fifth in the West.
Reed, Kasler and Crook will all move on and represent Western Oregon at Nationals, May 26-28 in Turlock, Calif.
