ST. GEORGE, Utah
- The Western Oregon football team scored 42 points in the first half and the defense held Dixie State scoreless as the Wolves moved to 3-0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 56-0 win on Saturday.

The Wolves (3-1, 3-0 GNAC) put up 497 yards of total offense while limiting the Red Storm (1-3, 1-1 GNAC) to just 180.

Evan Mozzochi led the way with a career-high 267 passing yards and four touchdowns. Trevor Gates was his favorite target, as the senior from Hillsboro, Ore. hauled in seven catches for a career-high 163 yards and two touchdowns.

The Wolves' passing attack was also supported by a strong running game which outgained DSC on the ground 199 to 48. Kenneth Haynes led the way with 83 yards on 11 carries. Western Oregon got touchdowns on the ground from Cody VonAppen, Mozzochi and a 69-yard scamper from Adryan Allen which capped off the scoring for the Wolves.

The Western Oregon defense played its best game of the season. They had three interceptions and seven sacks. Gavin Drake and Scotland Foss each had two sacks and paced the team with six tackles. Raymond Williams had one of the three interceptions. He picked off Dixie State's Cody Stevenson midway through the first quarter and returned it 37 yards for the touchdown. For the game, DSC quarterbacks completed just 12-of-30 passes for 132 yards.

Western Oregon scored in its very first possession of the game when Mozzochi connected with Gates on a 60-yard touchdown strike. WOU would add a Mozzochi touchdown run and William's pick-six to go in front 21-0 in the first quarter.

WOU matched its point total in the second quarter. Mozzochi hooked up with Josh McFarland on two touchdown passes in the quarter, and VonAppen added a one-yard touchdown plunge to put Western Oregon in front 42-0 at the half.

The Wolves would then score in their first drive of the second half before taking their foot off the gas.

This was the first shutout for Western Oregon since blanking Simon Fraser 38-0 in the 2010 season opener.

The Western Oregon football team will be at Abilene Christian next week.
