BELMONT, Calif. –
Monique Thees made the most of her first career goal, as the senior from Camano Island, Wash., scored the only goal of the match to lift Western Oregon over Notre Dame de Namur, 1-0, on Monday (Sept. 5).
Thees scored the goal in the 25th minute off a corner kick from
Taylor Thompson. Thees got a good first touch and then deposited the ball into the net for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
The Wolves' defense then continued to play well as it has all season. It held NDNU to just two shots on goal, both of which
Brittney Rigtrup saved. Western Oregon allowed just two goals in 295 minutes during its three-match road trip.
This was the Wolves' first road win since Oct. 29, 2009 at Northwest Nazarene.
Western Oregon's next match will be its home opener. WOU will host Concordia on Sept. 12 at 1:00 p.m.
