MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon volleyball team concludes a four-game road trip this week as the Wolves travel to Fairbanks, Alaska, for a meeting with Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 8:00 p.m. before closing out the week against Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 8:00 p.m.
WOU enters the weekend in Alaska with a mark of 12-5 on the season as the Wolves are currently in fourth-place in the conference standings with a 5-3 league mark. Last weekend, WOU fell on the road to nationally-ranked Central Washington before claiming a 3-1 victory over Northwest Nazarene.
The Wolves enter the week as one of the conference's best attacking teams as WOU ranks second in the league with a .233 hitting percentage. Senior
Danielle Reese leads the Wolves offensive efforts as she ranks fourth in the GNAC with 3.51 kills per set.
Krissi Kemper has also been solid for the Wolves as she leads the league and ranks No. 2 in the country with a .436 hitting percentage.
On the defensive side, WOU continues to lead the league with 2.48 blocks per set.
Becky Blees leads the defensive efforts as she ranks first in the conference and No. 11 in the nation with 1.33 blocks per set. Meanwhile,
Megan Triggs ranks seventh in the GNAC at 4.29 digs per set.
Alaska Fairbanks enters the week with a 3-12 mark overall and a 1-8 record in conference play. The Nanooks fell on the road to Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific last week. Sam Harthum leads the Nanooks with 3.09 kills per set while Britt Glaser leads the team in blocking with 0.63 per set.
Meanwhile, Alaska Anchorage currently stands in third place in the conference standings as the Seawolves are 12-5 overall and 7-2 in league play. UAA has won five-of-six matches after the Seawolves defeated Seattle Pacific and Montana State Billings last week. Katelynn Sanders leads UAA with 3.33 kills per set.
WOU managed to sweep both opponents earlier in the season in Monmouth; however, UAA and UAF continue to the lead the all-time series with an identical 13-11 record against the Wolves.
Following the road-trip, WOU will return home to host Western Washington on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7:00 p.m.
