Ellensburg, Wash. – The Western Oregon women's soccer team held a decided advantage in shots; however, it was not enough as Central Washington rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Wolves in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, WOU falls to 7-7-1 overall, 5-5-1 in league play, while the Wildcats improve to 5-8-2 overall, 4-6-1 in conference action.
WOU managed to jump out to an early lead as
Kymberly Witmer's goal in the third minute gave the Wolves the 1-0 advantage. Off a pass from
Lindsay Bauman, Witmer managed to find the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
The score would remain the same until halftime; however, CWU would respond with a pair of goals in the second half to secure the win.
Lauren Duty connected on the equalizer in the 62nd minute as she hit an arching shot from just inside the penalty area and into the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1.
Duty would then strike again as she was able to put the Wildcats ahead for good when she beat the WOU goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation in the 70th minute to give CWU a 2-1 lead.
WOU would be unable to find the net the rest of the way as the Wolves dropped their second straight road contest.
The Wolves held a decided, 24-12, advantage in shots for the contest as four WOU players posted four shots on the night.
Hillary Lutz suffered the loss in goal for the Wolves, recording two saves as Kayla Lipston picked up the win for the Wildcats while making seven saves.
WOU will look to rebound from the loss when it returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 20, when the Wolves travel to Seattle, Wash., to face Seattle Pacific at 1:00 p.m.
