Football travels to SFU looking for fifth straight win

MONMOUTH, Ore. –
Winners of four straight, the Western Oregon football team looks to continue its impressive play as the Wolves travel to Burnaby, B.C., to take on Simon Fraser in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 2:00 p.m.

WOU enters the week with a mark of 4-3 on the season, 4-2 in league play, after the Wolves cruised to a 66-20 victory over Dixie State at Homecoming. The offensive output saw the Wolves set a school record for most points scored since the move to NCAA Division II and set an all-time record for total yards (696).

Senior quarterback Cody VonAppen was 16-of-27 for 424 yards and four touchdowns in the victory as he connected on touchdown strikes of 94, 71, 37 and six yards as he was named Red Line GNAC Offensive Player of the Week. VonAppen continues to lead the Wolves attack as he leads the league with 280.1 yards of total offense per game.

WOU ranks fourth in the league in scoring at 27.4 points per game while ranking third in the conference at 399.9 yards per game. VonAppen leads at balanced rushing attack with 59.9 yards per contest while Kenneth Haynes is averaging 52.3 yards per game.

The Wolves defense continues its solid play as well as WOU ranks second in the league in scoring defense at 21.4 points per game. WOU is allowing only 345.4 yards per game as the Wolves lead the league in rushing defense at 118.6 yards per game.

SFU enters the week with a mark of 3-4 overall, 2-4 in conference play, as the Clan fell at Central Washington, 51-10, last week. Bo Palmer leads SFU with 92.1 rushing yards per game and 10 touchdowns as Clan quarterback Trey Wheeler is averaging 281.3 yards passing per contest and has thrown 16 touchdowns to just eight interceptions.

Earlier this season, WOU rallied to a 20-16 win over Simon Fraser in Monmouth as the Wolves now lead the all-time series, 15-10.

Following the meeting with SFU, WOU will return home to host Azusa Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 1:00 p.m.
