MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon women's soccer team returns to action this week as the Wolves host Saint Martin's on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 3:30 p.m. in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match.
WOU enters the week with a mark of 4-5-1 overall, 2-3-1 in league play, after the Wolves picked up a tie against Seattle Pacific, 1-1, before a win against Central Washington, 1-0, last week.
The tie against the Falcons was the first point against SPU since 2002 as the win against CWU put the Wolves in fifth-place in the conference standings and just two-points behind SMU.
Lindsay Bauman and
Makana Pundyke lead a balanced WOU attack as the duo have scored five points apiece to lead all scorers. The balanced attack has seen six separate WOU players score two goals this year while nine different players have scored at least one goal for the Wolves.
Hillary Lutz has seen most of the time in net for the Wolves as she has posted a 1.18 goals against average while making 26 saves. Last week, Lutz recorded a career-high seven saves against SPU before earning her first career shut-out against the Wildcats.
Saint Martin's enters the week with a record of 5-5-0 overall, 3-3-0 in league play as the Saints defeated CWU before falling to SPU in action last week.
Abby McFaul leads SMU with four goals and eight points as Ashley Engel has held opponents to a 1.19 goals against average while she is in the net.
SMU captured the first meeting between the two squads this season as a late Saints goal gave them a 2-1 victory.
Tickets to the match are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and non-WOU students and free to WOU students with a valid identification card.
Following the match with the Saints, the Wolves will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 6, when WOU travels to Billings, Mont., to face Montana State Billings at 1:00 p.m.
