MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon football team held Azusa Pacific to just 248 yards of total offense; however, it would not be enough as the Cougars snapped the Wolves five-game winning streak with a 19-3 victory on Saturday at McArthur Field. With the loss, WOU fell to 5-4 on the season, 5-3 in league play, while APU improved to 2-7 overall, 2-6 in league play.

On a wet and windy day, the game turned into a defensive battle as neither team would be able to break 300 yards of total offense. The Cougars held the Wolves to 211 yards of offense as WOU managed 10 first downs for the contest while APU could only muster 12 first downs against the Western Oregon defense.

The Cougars got on the board first as Jamie Cacciatore connected on a 25-yard field goal early in the first quarter to give APU a 3-0 lead.

WOU answered back with a field goal by Kelly Morgan from 37-yards out on the final play of the first quarter to cap a 10-play, 32-yard drive to tie the score; however, that would prove to be the final points of the game for the Wolves as the Cougars would score the game's final 16 points.

Over the next two quarters, Cacciatore would connect on field goals of 18, 33 and 25 yards as APU held a 12-3 advantage heading into the final quarter.

WOU was unable to mount a rally and Cougars running back Terrell Watson scored on a four-yard run with just 11 seconds remaining as APU would claim a 19-3 win.

Kenneth Haynes led the WOU attack with 60 yards rushing as Trey Shimabukuro and Ryan Bergman would split duties at quarterback after an injury to starter Cody VonAppen last week. Bergman went 6-of-21 for 58 yards while Shimabukuro was 6-of-14 for 47 yards for the Wolves.

Watson would lead APU with 49 yards rushing as Cougars quarterback Nick Owens was 7-of-26 on the day for 138 yards.

Azusa Pacific won the turnover battle against the Wolves, 3-1, as the Cougars picked up their second all-time victory against the Wolves.

WOU will look to rebound from the loss when the Wolves return to action on Saturday, Nov. 3, when they travel to Ellensburg, Wash., to face Central Washington at 1:00 p.m.
