MONMOUTH, Ore. – Freshman Andy Avgi had 21 points and eight rebounds; however, it was not enough as the Western Oregon men's basketball team fell to Chaminade, 84-76, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match on Saturday night. The Wolves fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss while Chaminade improved to 2-0.

Avgi led three WOU players in double figures as Rodney Webster had 14 and James Gehring came off the bench to score 12 as the Wolves shot 47.0 percent from the floor (31-of-66) for the contest. It was not enough to combat four Silversword players in double figures as De'Andre Haskins led all scorers with 22 points.

Bennie Murray added 19 points in the win as Chaminade used a big advantage at the charity stripe to come away with its second consecutive win. The Silverswords were 28-of-33 from the line, including knocking down several key free throws down the stretch, while WOU was 9-of-11 from the stripe.

WOU found itself trailing throughout much of the contest as the Wolves were down 40-33 at the half. Chaminade extended the lead to nine early in the second half; however, the Wolves responded and eventually took a 70-69 lead with 4:05 remaining on a lay-up by Webster.

The Silverswords answered with the next six points, capped on a layup by Dominique Cooks, as Chaminade would not trail the rest of the way en route to an eight-point win.

The Wolves held a decided, 48-32, advantage in points in the paint while also holding a 21-6 edge in points off the bench.

Devon Alexander had three steals to lead WOU on the defensive end while Jordan Wiley had four assists to lead all players.

Haskins picked up a double-double with 10 points to go along with his game-high 22 points as Chaminade held a slight, 36-33, advantage on the glass.
