MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon volleyball team made it eight wins in a row as the Wolves cruised to a straight-set, 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-15), victory over Northwest Nazarene in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match on Thursday night. With the victory, WOU improved to 19-5 overall, 12-3 in league play, while the Crusaders fell to 12-14 overall, 5-10 in league play.

“It is really exciting to see us playing so well at the right time of the season,” head coach Brad Saindon said. “Hannah (Deede) and Krissi (Kemper) were terrific tonight and it just seems like every night somebody else is stepping up and doing what they can to get us a victory.”

After cruising to a first-set win, the Wolves found themselves trailing 25-24 with NNU serving for the second set. A service error tied the score and gave WOU a side-out as Becky Blees and Hannah Deede would force an attack error and Samantha Ward converted on set point to give the Wolves a two-set advantage.

WOU would go on to sweep the match as the Wolves have now won 21 straight sets since falling in the first set in a win at Alaska Fairbanks.

“The set streak is not the most important streak to our team right now; but, I know in the back of our minds we were thrilled to keep the streak going,” Saindon said. “I was proud of the way we performed when we faced adversity during the second set.”

Kemper led a balanced WOU attack as she had 12 kills while hitting .600 with no attack errors for the match. Four WOU players had at least eight kills in the victory as Danielle Reese added 10 while Deede recorded nine kills. LesLyne Satele led WOU with 20 assists while Jordin Ramos added 12 assists and a service ace for the Wolves.

Once again, the WOU defense had a defining role in the match as the Wolves held NNU to just a .136 attack percentage. Blees had five blocks in the victory while Deede added four. Megan Triggs led five WOU players in double-figure digs with 17.

Becky Flores led NNU with 10 kills while Carly Dranginis has six kills for the Crusaders.

The eight-match win streak is the longest since the Wolves won nine in a row during the 2008 season as Western Oregon has not won 21 sets in a row since WOU won at least 24 in a row during a 19-match win streak during the 1994 season.

WOU will return to action when the Wolves host Central Washington on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 8:00 p.m.
