Men's Hoops travels to face Utah State on Saturday

Wolves look to extend winning-streak to seven games when WOU meets the Aggies.

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon men's basketball team will look to make it seven wins in a row when the Wolves return to action on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 6:05 p.m. against NCAA Division I opponent Utah State in Logan, Utah.

WOU enters the week with a mark of 6-2 on the season after sweeping a pair of home conference games last week. The Wolves defeated Northwest Nazarene, 92-84, before a thrilling, 118-113, triple overtime victory over Central Washington to close out the week.

Devon Alexander was the star of the victories as he earned Red Lion Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors after he averaged 24.0 points per game in the wins. The freshman made 16 of 29 shots, including four of six three-pointers as he recorded 13 steals on the weekend, including eight in the win over NNU.

Andy Avgi continues to lead a high-powered offense as he leads the team and ranks second on the squad at 21.8 points per game. The Wolves rank fourth in the league in scoring at 81.2 points per game as Jordan Wiley (12.4 ppg), Devon Alexander (11.6) and Rodney Webster (10.3) are also averaging in double figures for WOU.

Defensively, the Wolves have allowed 76.1 points per contest and have pressured the ball to rank second in the GNAC in turnover margin at +4.25. The Wolves rank second in the league with 9.0 steals per game as WOU is led by Alexander as the freshman leads the conference with 3.0 steals per game.

Utah State, a member of the WAC, enters the week with a mark of 4-1 on the season after a win at Santa Clara last week. The Aggies are led by frontcourt player Jarred Shaw, who leads three players in double figures at 14.6 points per game. Preston Medlin is averaging 13.2 ppg while Kyisean Reed averages 11.4 points per contest.

The Aggies are holding opponents to just 41.1 percent from the floor while averaging 63.2 points per game against the USU defense.

The meeting marks the second in school history after Utah State claimed a 78-42 win over the Wolves during the 2009-10 season.

Following the meeting with the Aggies, the Wolves will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 12, when WOU hosts Shorter at 7:00 p.m.
