LOGAN, Utah – Andy Avgi led the Western Oregon men's basketball team with 15 points; however, it would not be enough as the Wolves fell to Utah State, 86-57, in a non-conference contest on Saturday night. The loss snaps a six-game win streak for the Wolves as WOU falls to 6-3 on the season while Utah State improves to 5-1.
Facing a NCAA Division I opponent for the first time this season, the Wolves hung tough in the first 20 minutes as WOU held a pair of leads and only trailed by six heading into the break.
Utah State came out of the break on fire offensively; however, extending the lead and eventually cruising to the 29-point win. The Aggies shot 57.4 percent (35-of-61) for the contest as Utah State held a 40-16 edge in points in the paint.
Avgi one again led the Wolves as the freshman scored 15 points while senior
Kolton Nelson added 10 points for WOU.
Devon Alexander added nine points while leading WOU with five assists.
The Aggies managed to contain the Wolves high-octane offense, holding WOU to just 36.2 percent (21-of-58) from the field. The Aggies held a 43-21 advantage on the glass as
Jordan Schriber came off the bench to lead WOU with six boards.
WOU will look to rebound from the loss when the Wolves host Shorter on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 7:00 p.m.
