MONMOUTH, Ore. - Western Oregon head women's soccer coach
Steve Ancheta has announced the signings of
Madison Shore,
Maya Palaroan and
Makana Pundyke to National Letters of Intent for the 2012 recruiting class.
"These three recruits are not just solid soccer players they are also very good people and students," explained Ancheta. "We are lucky to have them join our soccer family in the Fall of 2012."
Pundyke will join the Wolves out of Kamehameha Schools in Maui, Hawaii. She is a 5-5 forward who was a first team all-league and all-state honorable mention selection, and once scored 21 goals in a season for the Warriors.
"Makana is a very strong and powerful soccer athlete," said Ancheta. "She loves to attack the goal and doesn't mind taking defenders on in the final third of a game. She is very strong in the air and is not afraid to mix it up in the box. I can also see Makana battling for minutes upfront or in the midfield and she is also a player who leaves it all on the field."
Joining Pundyke up front will be
Maya Palaroan. This forward and midfielder is a four-year letterwinner for King Kekaulike High School in Maui. She was a third team all-state and two-time first team all-conference selection.
"Maya is a very good athlete who loves to score goals," Ancheta explained. "She has an engine that just doesn't quit around the goal box. She has a very competitive edge to her and will bring a lot of excitement to our program next fall. I see her battling for minutes upfront or in the midfield for us. I think she knows what she needs to work on to get her game ready for Fall camp to be at her best for her game and the team."
Coach Ancheta also inked an Oregonian as he signed
Madison Shore out of Mountain View High School in Bend, where she was a second team all-league selection.
"She has been a bit under the radar with a few injuries the last couple of years, but technically her skills are very high and she reads the game very well," said Ancheta. "Her best position is probably in the center mid, but I could also see her playing a few different roles for us on the pitch. Madison is very excited and motivated to come into training camp next fall to help the team in any way she can and battle for a starting spot."
The Wolves lost five seniors to graduation this last year, Ancheta's first season on the job. They finished fifth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 5-6-3 record, for their best finish since the 2001 season.
