BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings scored 24 runs in a doubleheader to take both games from the Wolves on Saturday, Mar. 24. MSU Billings won the opener 11-5 then came back in game two to win 13-10.
The wins keep the Yellowjackets(18-5) atop the GNAC by three games with a 15-3 record. The losses drop the Wolves nine games out of first.
Game 1
Kendra George and
Jourdan Williams each registered two RBI but a big second inning by the Yellowjackets swung the game in their favor 11-5.
MSU Billings scored five unearned runs in the second inning and capped off the six-run second with a two-run homer from Meg Harasymczuk.
The Wolves would battle back and cut the lead to 6-5 with two runs in the third and three in the fourth capped off with a two-run homer from George. But the Yellowjackets would answer with two more their half of the fourth to extend the lead back to three (8-5).
Game 2
Western Oregon batted around and scored eight runs in the first inning, but MSU Billings continued to chip away at the lead to earn a 13-10 victory in game two.
Andrea Bailey finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI.
Amanda Evola went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI, while
Jourdan Williams was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Bailey was a key cog in the Wolves eight-run first. After starting the inning off by reaching on an error and coming around to score on Evola's home run, Bailey then hit a three-run homer to cap off the inning.
The Wolves would extend their lead to 10-3 on a home run by Williams, but it went downhill from there. MSUB would score in each of the last four innings including putting up six runs in the bottom of the seventh, which was capped off on a game-winning grand slam by Harasymczuk, to steal the victory away from the Wolves.
