Box Score 2 BILLINGS, Mont. – The Western Oregon softball team could just not find a way to break through against the conference leading Montana State Billings as they dropped Sunday's doubleheader, 7-1 and 12-5.
The wins allowed MSU Billings (20-5, 17-3 GNAC) to open up a three game lead in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings. The Wolves dropped 11 games back of the first place with the losses.
Game 1
Andrea Bailey went 3-for-3 out of the leadoff spot and gave the Wolves the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when she came around to score on a single by
Hannah Pomeroy. However, that would be WOU's only lead of the game as the Yellowjackets would answer with a two-run home run from Meg Harasymczuk in their half of the inning and then put up five runs in the third to win the game 7-1.
Game 2
Western Oregon jumped on the Yellowjackets in the first inning for the second straight day but once again MSU Billings battled for all seven innings to come away with a 12-5 win.
The Wolves put up four runs in the first inning while getting only one hit. After loading the bases with two walks and an error,
Danyelle Hutchison was hit by a pitch to bring in the first run of the game.
Ali Parkerson then doubled in two runs and
Kendra George brought in another run on a hit by pitch as the Wolves hit around in the first inning.
WOU tacked on one more in the second on
Amanda Evola's sixth home run of the season to go up 5-0.
The Yellowjackets would begin to chip away at the Wolves' lead with one in the third. They then put up five runs in the fourth and six in the fifth for the final 12-5 margin of victory.
Emily Osborn and Taylor Hoke had three RBI apiece for the Yellowjackets.
