PORTLAND - Western Oregon and Concordia split a softball doubleheader on Friday (Mar. 9). The Wolves won the opener 5-2 before CU came back to win game two 3-2.
Game 1
Eryka Brill gave the Wolves a quality start and Western Oregon's offense put up all five of its runs in the fifth inning to earn a 5-2 win over Concordia in game one.
The big hits in the fifth came on a two-run single by
Amanda Evola with the bases loaded and a two-run home run by
Ashley Worthey to cap off the scoring with WOU in front 5-0.
Evola and Worthey would both finish the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
Eryka Brill (2-3) picked up her second win of the season by going the first 5.1 innings allowing two runs and just two hits. She then gave way to
Brittany Reeves who got the final five outs of the game for the save.
Game 2
Concordia spoiled WOU's bid at a doubleheader sweep by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Wolves 3-2.
Western Oregon took a 2-0 lead into the inning but allowed three unearned runs to suffer the loss.
Hannah Pomeroy pitched the whole game for the Wolves and allowed just two hits and those three unearned runs. She was no-hitting Concordia entering the sixth innings. Pomeroy retired the first 14 batters of the game and 15 of 16 before the sixth.
Concordia would score their first two on errors by the Wolves, then score the game-winning run on just their second hit of the game.
Lacey Romo pitched a complete game to earn the win for CU. She allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out four.
Lexi Orteza and
Jourdan Williams had two hits apiece to led WOU.
Next games
Western Oregon will now prepare to host Western Washington in a GNAC series next weekend, Mar. 17-18.
