Softball hosts pair of weekend doubleheaders

Wolves host Central Washington on Saturday and Western Washington on Sunday.

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Winners of six straight and seven-of-eight, the Western Oregon softball team returns to action this week as the Wolves host Central Washington in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 14, at 12:00 p.m. and close out the weekend with a doubleheader against Western Washington on Sunday, April 15, at 11:00 a.m.

The Wolves enter the weekend with a 10-12 conference mark, 14-21 overall, after WOU swept a four-game series from Northwest Nazarene this week. Freshman Amanda Evola continues to lead the WOU attack as she leads the team with a .387 average, seven home runs and 30 RBI. Andrea Bailey (.333) and Ashley Worthey (.316) are also hitting over .300 for the Wolves.

Central Washington enters the weekend with a mark of 13-22 overall, 9-14 in league play, after losing three-of-four to Montana State Billings. Liz Jusko leads the way for the Wildcats with a .318 average while Maria Gau has seen the most time in the circle, posting a 7-13 mark with a 3.42 ERA in 120.2 innings of work.

Western Washington split a doubleheader with MSU Billings earlier this week and enters the weekend with a mark of 11-28 overall and 7-15 in GNAC play. Jessica Carey leads the way with a .369 average while Stephanie Fox has posted a 5-6 record in the circle with a  3.06 ERA.

Admission to the contests are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and non-WOU students and free to WOU students with a valid ID.

Following the weekend doubleheaders, Western Oregon will return to action on Friday, April 19, when they host Montana State Billings in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
