Late comebacks help SFU overcome Wolves

BURNABY, BC - Simon Fraser used a pair of late rallies to defeat Western Oregon in a doubleheader, 4-3 and 10-9, on Thursday, Apr. 26.

The losses even Western Oregon's Great Northwest Athletic Conference record at 17-17 (21-26 overall). The wins move Simon Fraser (29-12, 21-11) past Saint Martin's into second place in the GNAC.

Game 1
Sammie Olexa's two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh gave the Clan the 4-3 win and spoiled a quality starting outing from Hannah Pomeroy.

Pomeroy went the first 4.2 innings allowing seven hits but just one run.

Amanda Evola had two of the Wolves' four hits and drove in two runs on a double in the fifth as WOU built a 3-0 lead.

Simon Fraser would get one of those runs back in their half of the fifth on an RBI double by Leah Riske then take their first lead with their three-run rally in the seventh.

Game 2
Simon Fraser put up eight runs in the sixth and Trisha Bouchard hit a two-run double in the bottom of seventh to comeback and defeat Western Oregon 10-9.

Danielle Harcourt went 2-for-3 with a homer and drove in four runs to help Western Oregon build a 9-0 lead. Andrea Bailey had three hits to lead the Wolves. Lexi Orteza, Ashley Worthey and Amanda Evola also posted multiple hit games.

WOU was up 4-0 going into the sixth when they tacked on five runs helped by two-run RBI doubles by Worthey and Jourdan Williams.

Next games
Western Oregon will close out its 2012 regular season on Saturday at Western Washington. First pitch will be at Noon.
