Volleyball Cruises to Sweep over Walla Walla

Wolves use .400 attack percentage to sweep Walla Walla in straight sets.

MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon volleyball team was in control throughout against Walla Walla as the Wolves cruised to a 25-7, 25-11, 25-8 straight-set  victory in a non-conference match at the New PE Building on Friday afternoon. With the win, Western Oregon moved to 7-2 on the season while Walla Walla fell to 0-8 with the loss.

"Our goal tonight was to get all of our hitters involved and we did a great job of giving them opportunities," head coach Brad Saindon said. "It was a good week for the team as we were able to work on a number of things as we get ready to open conference play next week."

Samantha Ward and Hannah Deede led the attack for WOU as the duo combined for 18 kills during the match. Ward led the way with 10 kills and a .474 attack percentage while Deede posted a career-high eight kills on 13 attempts for a .538 attack percentage.

"I was really pleased with the way Hannah (Deede) played tonight," Saindon said. "She did a great job and really set the tone for the match."

The Wolves added a season-high 13 service aces in the victory, led by Deede with four aces while Samantha Ward and Reese each recorded three aces for WOU. Jordin Ramos led the Wolves in assists with 14 while LesLyne Satele recorded 10 assists in the victory.   

WOU recorded a .400 attack percentage for the match as the Wolves had only seven attack errors in 65 attempts. The high-percentage was highlighted by a .524 effort during the second set as Western Oregon produced 13 kills on just 21 attempts.

WOU will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 20, as the Wolves open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at home against Alaska Anchorage at 7:00 p.m. Tickets to the conference opener are $6 for adults and $4 for non-WOU students and seniors. WOU students are admitted for free with a valid school ID.
