MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon women's soccer team returns to action this week as the Wolves travel to Nampa, Idaho, for a meeting against Northwest Nazarene on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 3:00 p.m. before closing out the week at Saint Martin's on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 1:30 p.m.
The Wolves enter the week with a mark of 3-3-0 on the season, 1-1-0 in league play, after splitting a pair of conference contests last week. WOU opened the week with a 2-0 loss at the hands of Western Washington; however, rebounded to claim a 4-1 win over Simon Fraser to close out the week.
WOU is led on offense by
JoEllen DeLeon and
Maya Palaroan as each has scored two goals apiece to lead the team.
Makana Pundyke leads the team in assists as WOU ranks fourth in the league with 1.67 goals per game.
On the defensive side,
Hillary Lutz has seen a majority of the time in net, posting a 0.87 goals against average for the Wolves while making 14 saves.
Northwest Nazarene enters the week with a mark of 3-3-0 on the season, 0-2-0 in league play, after falling to Central Washington and Seattle Pacific last week. Sarah Strapoli leads the Crusaders with three goals, three assists and nine points. Tanya Zickefoose has been the primary goalkeeper for NNU, posting a 1.59 goals against average and a save percentage of .625.
Meanwhile, Saint Martin's enters this week's action with a record of 3-3-0 on the season as the Saints defeated Simon Fraser, 1-0, before dropping a 3-1 decision at the hands of Western Washington last week. Forward Abby McFaul leads SMU with four goals and eight points while Gina Cardena has posted a 2.57 goals against average in the net.
The Wolves lead the all-time series with the Crusaders, 21-7-2; however, the Wolves are 3-5-2 against Saint Martin's. Last season, the Wolves swept the four meetings between NNU and SMU, outscoring the squads 8-1 for the year.
Following the conference road openers, Western Oregon will return home to face Seattle Pacific on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m.
