Soccer falls in double OT to Northwest Nazarene

Wolves fall to Crusaders, 4-3, in second overtime.

Box Score NAMPA, Idaho - The Western Oregon women's soccer team jumped out to an early two-goal lead; however, could not hang on as the Wolves fell to Northwest Nazarene in double overtime, 4-3, in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, WOU falls to 3-4-0 on the season, 1-2-0 in league play, while Northwest Nazarene improves to 4-3-0, 1-2-0 in conference action.

Lindsay Baumann got the Wolves on the board first in the 16th minute as she beat the Northwest Nazarene goalkeeper with a 15-yard blast into the back of the net for her second goal of the year to give the Wolves an early 1-0 lead.

Makana Pundyke would give the Wolves a 2-0 advantage in the 35th minute as she beat the keeper with a one-on-one move for her first goal of the season.

As the Wolves carried a 2-0 lead into the break, Jenny Field was able to pull the Crusaders even with goals in the 48th and 50th minute to tie the score.

Western Oregon's Nikki McCall managed to grab the lead back for the Wolves as she connected on a 30-yard strike in the 61st minute to give WOU a 3-2 lead.

Northwest Nazarene managed to net the equalizer with just under three minutes remaining; however, as Celina Mortensen connected on a shot from the top of the box in the 88th minute to send the game into overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime period, Field ended the game in the 101st-minute as she collected a rebound and pushed it into the net for her third goal of the game to give the Crusaders the win.

For the contest, Northwest Nazarene held a slight 13-12 edge in shots while holding a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Tanya Zickefoose picked up the win, recording three saves for the Crusaders while Hillary Lutz stopped four shots in the loss.

Western Oregon will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 23, as the Wolves travel to Lacey, Wash., to face Saint Martin's at 1:30 p.m.
