Volleyball takes fifth-straight with win over SFU

Wolves move to 10-2 overall, 3-1 in league play, with the victory.

BURNABY, B.C. – Krissi Kemper had 15 kills while posting an incredible .682 attack percentage as the Western Oregon volleyball team won its fifth-straight match with a 24-26, 25-21, 25-13, 25-19, four-set victory over Simon Fraser in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on Thursday night. With the win, the Wolves remain in first-place in the league with a 10-2 overall mark, 3-0 in GNAC play, while Simon Fraser falls to 2-9 overall, 0-5 in conference action.

After the Wolves dropped the first set, 24-26, they responded by sweeping the next three sets, buoyed by a strong attack effort as WOU had a hitting percentage of .344 for the match. The Wolves had 18 kills while hitting .385 in the second set and followed up with a 14 kill and a .481 hitting effort in a dominant third set victory. Western Oregon finished the match hitting .258 with 13 kills in the fourth and final set.

Danielle Reese led the way as the senior led all players with 17 kills while Becky Blees was among three WOU players with over 10 kills as the junior recorded 13.

Four Wolves posted over 10 points in the match, led by Reese with 18.5 while Blees (18.0), Kemper (16.0) and Samantha Ward (11.0) also reached double figures.

LesLyne Satele led all players with 28 assists while Jordin Ramos added 23 assists in the victory.

Once again, the Wolves put forth another solid defensive effort as WOU held the Clan to a .172 hitting percentage while forcing 46 attack errors. Blees and Hannah Deede each recorded one solo block and four block assists in the victory as Kemper added two block assists for the Wolves.

WOU's Megan Triggs led all players in the match with 18 digs.

The Wolves will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 29, as the Wolves travel to Bellingham, Wash., to face No. 17 Western Washington at 7:00 p.m.
