Men's Hoops unable to stop Yellowjackets, fall 88-74

Yellowjackets shoot 48.0 percent from behind the three-point line as Wolves fall.

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon men's basketball team had four players finish in double figures; however, it was not enough to overcome a strong shooting night from Montana State Billings as the Yellowjackets picked up an 88-74 win over the Wolves in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night. With the loss, WOU falls to 8-9 overall, 3-6 in league play, while MSUB improves to 11-9, 4-5 in conference action.

The Yellowjackets got off to a fast start from the field, shooting 53.1 percent (17-of-32) in the first half, including 6-of-10 from behind the line as MSUB built a 46-33 halftime advantage. The Wolves would be unable to recover as WOU would not get within double-digits in the second half as the Yellowjackets picked up the 14-point victory.

Senior Kolton Nelson came off the bench to lead the Wolves with 14 points while Andy Avgi had 11 in the loss. WOU shot 46.0 percent from the field (46.0 percent); however, were unable to contain the Yellowjackets from behind the arc as MSUB finished the night 12-of-25 (48.0 percent) from three.

David Arnold led five MSUB players in double figures with 19 while Kalob Hatcher added 16 for the Yellowjackets.

WOU will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 2, when the Wolves host Saint Martin's at 7:00 p.m.
