MONMOUTH, Ore.-The Western Oregon men's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves resume conference play when they host Saint Martin's on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 7:00 p.m.
WOU is looking to break a two-game losing streak as they enter the game 8-9 overall and 3-6 in GNAC conference play after losses on the road last week to Seattle Pacific and Montana State Billings.
Redshirt freshman forward
Andy Avgi continues to lead the Wolves in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game while also leading the Wolves in rebounding with an average of 5.1 per game. Freshman guard
Devon Alexander also averages double figures with an average of 10.8 points per game. Junior guard
Tyler Funk leads the team with 3.1 assists per game, and the Wolves average 75.4 points per game as a team.
On the defensive end, Alexander leads the team with 2.6 steals per game, while senior center
Kolton Nelson leads the team with 0.7 blocks per game.
Saint Martin's enters the game with an overall record of 6-11 and a conference record of 2-7. Last week, they lost to Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific, both on the road.
Senior forward Roger O'Neill leads the Saints in scoring, averaging 15.9 points per game. Other players averaging double figures in scoring include senior guard Eric Taylor (11.7 points per game) and junior guard Evan Coulter (10.5 points per game).
Last season, WOU split their two contests with SMU, with the road team winning both games. Earlier this season on Jan. 5, the Saints defeated the Wolves at home by a score of 71-59.
Admission to the contest is $6 for adults and $4 for non-WOU students and seniors while current WOU students are admitted for free with a valid identification card.
Following tonight's game, the Wolves return to action next week, hosting Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
