MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon men's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves travel to Alaska Anchorage to face the Seawolves on Thursday, Jan. 10, at 8:00 p.m. before a meeting with Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 8:00 p.m.

The Wolves enter the week with a mark of 7-4 on the season, 2-1 in league play, after WOU fell to Saint Martin's, 71-59, last week. Freshman Andy Avgi continues to lead the WOU attack as the forward leads the team and ranks second in the league in scoring at 19.3 points per game.

Avgi leads four WOU players in double figures as freshman Devon Alexander (12.4 ppg), Jordan Wiley (10.5 ppg) and Rodney Webster (10.1 ppg) are also scoring at least 10.0 points per game for the Wolves. As a team, WOU is averaging 78.5 points per game while shooting 44.7 percent from the floor.

Defensively, WOU is holding opponents to 78.1 points per game and 44.4 percent from the field as the Wolves rank among the league's best in forcing turnovers. WOU ranks fourth in the conference with 8.5 steals per game as Alexander leads the league with 2.8 steals per game.

Alaska Anchorage enters the week with a mark of 8-4 on the season and 1-3 in league play after the Seawolves fell to Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington last week. Kyle Fossman leads three UAA players in double figures with 16.1 points per game as the team is averaging 76.6 points per contest.

Meanwhile, the Nanooks enter the week with a mark of 8-4 overall, 3-1 in GNAC play, after sweeping the Wildcats and Crusaders last week. UAF has excelled on the defensive side of the ball, holding opponents to 69.8 points per game and just 41.8 percent from the field. Dominique Brinson leads a balanced UAF attack with 13.8 points per game.

Last season, WOU swept a pair of games from Alaska Fairbanks while falling in both meetings against the Seawolves.

Following this week's action, WOU will return home to host nationally-ranked Western Washington on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7:00 p.m.
