NAMPA, Idaho – The Western Oregon University women's soccer team used a Taylor Higa goal in the 87th minute to salvage a 1-1 draw at Northwest Nazarene University Saturday, to continue its five-game unbeaten streak.

The Wolves (6-2-4, 4-2-2 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) are now in fourth place in the conference standings with 14 points, one point behind Seattle Pacific. The top three teams at the end of the regular season advance to the GNAC tournament.

Both defenses controlled most of the match, but it was WOU's that stymied the Crusaders to just four shots on goal. Amanda Rose Johnson had two saves in the Western Oregon net. NNU totaled 10 shots in the contest, with five coming in both halves. Northwest Nazarene had one corner kick in the match as well.

The Crusaders (1-7-3, 0-5-3) opened the scoring in the 81st minute. Kelsey Martin netted her third goal of the season with a penalty kick following a red card on Western Oregon. Seven minutes later, Higa recorded her second goal of the season with a cross from the left side of the field, that was headed in by the defense.

Western Oregon had plenty of chances with 13 shots on goal. Argia Phillips made a dozen saves for NNU in the 110 minutes of action. The Wolves put a pair of shots on goal in the first overtime period. WOU also had eight corner kicks in the match.

The Wolves welcome Simon Fraser (0-8-2, 0-6-2) for their next match Thursday at 3 p.m. The teams finished the earlier season matchup with a 0-0 tie on Sept. 28 in Burnaby, B.C. The Clan has lost four straight including a 4-1 decision against Central Washington Saturday.
