MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon University women's soccer team's unbeaten streak moved to eight consecutive games after a scoreless draw with Central Washington University Thursday. The Wolves own the longest unbeaten streak in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Amanda Rose Johnson recorded her ninth shutout of the season in the net for the Wolves (8-2-5, 6-2-3 GNAC). As a team, WOU extended its own school record with its 11 shutout of the season. Johnson had her 35th and 36th saves of the season in the match.
Western Oregon had several chances for the victory in the contest. The Wolves had a 15-3 advantage in shots, placing 10 on the net. The Wildcats' Kayla Lipston saved all 10 WOU shots.
Taylor Higa had a pair of shots on goal and four total shots.
Central Washington (9-4-1, 8-2-1) played to their first draw of the season. The Wildcats entered the game on a four-game win streak, and winners of seven of their last eight. Western Oregon won the earlier meeting this season, 1-0, in Ellensburg.
The Wolves can clinch a berth into the second annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships with one victory in its final three games. Two of WOU's last three contests are at home, where it is now 5-0-1 this season.
Western Oregon is tied for third in the conference with Seattle Pacific, which has 21 points, and behind Central Washington's 25 points. Western Washington (30 points) and CWU have already punched their postseason tickets.
The Wolves welcome Seattle Pacific (10-4-0, 7-3-0) Saturday at 11 a.m. WOU and Seattle Pacific meet for the 26th time. The Wolves' will be looking for only their third victory in the all-time series. Heather Young found the net in the 86th minute to give the Falcons a 1-0 win at home over WOU on Sept. 19. SPU outshot Western Oregon 20-6 in the game.
It is Hall of Fame weekend at Western Oregon. Fans are encouraged to wear red all weekend for Red Out. Fans wearing red Thursday will receive a giveaway, and several red shirts will be given out at the game. Fans can bring either of their Thursday or Saturday soccer ticket stubs, or a ticket stub from Saturday's football game, for free entry to Saturday's volleyball 7 p.m. match. Fans can also show their football or volleyball ticket for entry to soccer.
