MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team snapped Western Oregon University's eight-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 road victory Saturday.
The No. 6 in the West Region Falcons (12-4-0, 9-3-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) won their fourth straight contest, and handed WOU its first home loss this season. SPU and the Wolves both qualified for the GNAC Championships Thursday, but seeding was at stake as Seattle Pacific entered the match with only a three-point lead over WOU. The Falcons now have a six-point cushion for third place over Western Oregon with two games left in the regular season.
Laura Moore scored her eighth goal of the season right before halftime in the 44th minute. The sophomore finished an assist from Alexa Diaz for the game-winner. SPU had a 15-6 advantage in shots, placing nine on goal to the Wolves' three.
Western Oregon's (8-3-5, 6-3-3)
Amanda Rose Johnson made seven saves, and the Falcons' Natalie Harold made three. Ashley Shaw and Moore both placed shots on goal in the win for Seattle Pacific. The Wolves' will were looking for only their third victory in the 26 all-time meetings.
The Wolves travel to Montana State Billings (5-7-2, 4-7-1) for their final regular season match Thursday. Start is scheduled for 2 p.m. Mountain Time. The game will feature live video and stats on WOUWolves.com.
