HILO, Hawai'i – The Western Oregon softball team earned a split on the first day of the Hawaii Hilo Round Robin on Thursday, falling to Missouri Western State in game one, 7-3, before exploding for nine runs in the seventh-inning en route to an 11-1 win over Hawaii Hilo in game two. With the split, WOU moves to 5-8 on the season.
In a hard-fought game one loss to Missouri Western State,
Lexi Orteza led the Wolves, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
Danielle Hannan also had two hits for the Wolves.
WOU jumped out to the early, 1-0, lead; however, the Griffons rallied for six straight runs to grab control of the contest.
Jackie Bishop held WOU to just four hits as she earned the complete game victory, allowing three runs while striking out eight in seven innings of work.
Stephanie Morgan took the loss for WOU, allowing seven runs on 10 hits while tossing a complete game.
The Wolves managed to rebound in game two as WOU exploded for 11 unanswered runs after the Vulcans grabbed a 1-0 lead through three innings.

Desiree Villegas singled up the middle in the fourth, scoring
Jourdan Williams and Orteza to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead.
As the score remained the same heading into the seventh inning, WOU would explode for nine runs in the frame to put the game away.
Desiree Villegas delivered a two-run single during the outburst while
Amanda Evola capped the Wolves victory with a three-run blast to center field, her third of the season, to give WOU a commanding 10-run advantage heading into UHH's final at-bat.

Hannah Pomeroy would retire the Vulcans in order in the bottom of the inning as she picked up the complete game victory, improving to 3-2 on the season after allowing only one run on three hits in seven innings of work.
Nelson took the loss for UHH, allowing eight runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings of work.
WOU will return to action at the UHH Round Robin when the Wolves face Missouri Western State on Friday, Feb. 22, at 12:00 p.m.
