MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon softball team returns to action this week as the Wolves travel to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Desert Stinger Invitational as the Wolves open play at the invite on Friday, Feb. 8, against Metro State at 11:30 a.m. The Wolves, who will play five games at the invitational, will also face Minot State (Friday, 4:30 p.m.), Sonoma State (Saturday, 2:00 p.m.), Colorado-Colorado Springs (Saturday, 7:00 p.m.) and Chadron State (Sunday, 2:00 p.m.).
The Wolves enter the week with a record of 1-3 on the season after WOU managed to take one game from a four game set against No. 2 UC San Diego last weekend. Sophomore
Amanda Evola led the WOU attack against the Tritons, hitting .400 while leading the Wolves with one home run and five RBI.
Desiree Villegas led the Wolves in hitting as she batted .417 on the weekend while scoring one run.
In the circle,
Hannah Pomeroy opened the season with a complete game shutout and enters the week with a 1-0 mark in 11 innings of work.
Stephanie Morgan is also off to a strong start in the circle as she held opponents to a .154 average in 4.0 innings of action.
Metro State enters the week with a mark of 3-2 after five games at the Metro/Regis Tournament to open the season. Susie Oury leads the Roadrunners, hitting .389 on the year while Chelsea Brew leads Metro State with two home runs and five RBI. Aubree Maul has seen a majority of the time in the circle for MSU, posting a 2-0 record and 0.91 ERA in 15.1 innings of work.
Following the weekend invitational, WOU will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 19, when the Wolves travel to Kaneohe, Hawai'i, for a doubleheader against Hawai'i Pacific at 3:00 p.m.
