MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon softball team extended its winning streak to six games as the Wolves swept a doubleheader from Saint Martin's on Sunday, defeating the Saints in game one, 6-2, before rallying for a 4-3 victory with three runs in the seventh in game two. With the wins, WOU improves to 13-12 overall and remains perfect in conference with a 4-0 mark.

Jourdan Williams was the star for the Wolves in game one as she drove home five runners in her first two at-bats to give the Wolves a 5-0 lead heading into the third inning.

The starting third-baseman opened the scoring with a double down the left field line to score Melanie Pfeiffer and Lexi Orteza in the first for a 2-0 lead.

She followed with the key hit of the contest in the second inning as she hit a bases loaded clearing double to right-center, scoring Amanda Evola, Pfeiffer and Orteza to give the Wolves a commanding five-run lead.

After Saint Martin's cut the lead to three with single runs in the third and the fifth, WOU starting pitcher Hannah Pomeroy put the finishing touches on the win a solo home run in the sixth inning. On a 3-2 pitch, Pomeroy crushed the offering over the left field fence for her fourth home run of the season as the Wolves would close out a 6-2 victory.

Pomeroy improved to 7-3 on the season after allowing two runs on six hits in the complete game victory.

Sam Munger took the loss for Saint Martin's after allowing six runs on seven hits as she fell to 5-4 on the season.

Munger and Joslyn Eugenio each had RBI to lead the Saints attack in game one.

In game two, the Wolves trailed for most of the contest before a wild rally in the seventh inning allowed WOU to sweep the doubleheader from the Saints.

Trailing 3-1, Ashlie Gardner got the rally started when she singled up the middle to score Dani Hannan from second to cut the lead to 3-2.

With runners on first and second and one out, Ali Parkerson stepped to the plate in what would be the final at-bat of the contest. The right-fielder lined a shot to shortstop that was misplayed, allowing Bridjet Box to score to tie the game. On the throw back into the infield, the ball rolled away from the pitcher as Gardner took advantage of the opportunity and raced home to give the Wolves the win.

The Wolves trailed 3-0 in the sixth inning before Evola delivered a single up the middle to score Orteza to cut the Saints lead to two.

For a majority of the contest it looked as if Williams would be the tough-luck losing pitcher for WOU after allowing only three runs on two hits; however, the late rally allowed the right-hander to pick up her third straight win as she improved to 4-5 on the season.

Taylor Bakos took the loss for SMU after allowing four runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings of work.

Lacey McGladrey opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the third as Megan Miller would add a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to give the Saints a 3-0 lead.

WOU will look to remain perfect in conference play when the Wolves return to action on Friday, March 15, against Northwest Nazarene at 1:00 p.m.
