MONMOUTH, Ore. – Amanda Evola went 4-for-7 with a home run and seven RBI to lead the Western Oregon softball team to a split against Simon Fraser as the Wolves captured a six-inning, 8-0 victory over the Clan in game one before SFU rallied to a 6-3 win in game two. With the split, WOU moves to 16-15 on the season, 7-3 in league play, while the Clan move to 12-10 overall and remain in first place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings with a 7-1 mark.

Evola combined with WOU starting pitcher Hannah Pomeroy to lead the Wolves to victory in game one as the sophomore centerfielder went 3-for-4 with a run scored and six RBI against the Clan.

Pomeroy tossed the complete game shutout as she moved to 9-4 on the season after allowing only two hits while striking out three.

WOU jumped out to an early, 3-0 lead as Evola put the Wolves on the board when she laced a home run over the left-centerfield fence, scoring Lexi Orteza, for the first runs of the game. The home run was the sixth of the season for Evola as Bridjet Box added a RBI single in the inning to give the Wolves a three-run cushion.

After neither team could cross home in the next two innings, Evola extended the lead to five with a two-run single in the fourth, scoring Orteza and Ashlie Gardner as the Wolves grabbed control of the game.

With SFU unable to get on the board in the fifth or the sixth, WOU would end the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the run-rule victory. Once again, Evola would deliver the key blow as she hammered a two-run single to right field, scoring Pfeiffer and Ortez to make the score 7-0. Williams would follow by reaching on a fielder's choice, scoring Pfeiffer from third as the Wolves handed SFU its first conference loss of the season.

Cara Lukawesky took the loss for SFU and fell to 5-5 on the year after allowing five runs on eight hits in four innings of work. Lauren Mew and Alex Baylak had the only hits for SFU to lead the Clan in the loss.

WOU had 11 hits in the game one victory as Orteza went 3-for-3 with three runs scored while Williams added two hits, a RBI and a run scored.

SFU would rebound in game two as Carly Lepoutre's grand slam in the top of the sixth inning highlighted a five-run inning as the Clan rallied for a 6-3 win.

After SFU scored in the top of the first to take the lead, WOU would rally for three in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead into the fourth inning. Evola, Williams and Box each had RBI hits in the frame to give the Wolves a two-run lead.

WOU would be unable to hold on as SFU posted five in the sixth to grab control of the game. Rosie Murphy delivered a bases loaded single to cut the lead to 3-2 as Lepoutre followed with a key hit in the game as she belted a grand slam over the right-field fence to give the Clan the lead.

The Wolves would be unable to respond as Kelsey Hawkins retired WOU in order in the seventh, earning the victory after allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out 12 to improve to 6-3 on the season.

Williams took the loss for WOU after allowing six runs on six hits in six innings of work as she fell to 5-7 on the year.

WOU will return to action on Sunday, March 24, when the Wolves host Western Washington for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
