MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon softball team dropped a pair of contests against No. 23 Saint Martin's on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Saints, 8-1, in game one before dropping a 12-6 decision in game two. With the losses, WOU falls to 20-23 overall, 9-7 in league play, as the Saints improve to 28-11, 10-4 in conference action.
SMU starter Sam Munger held the Wolves in check throughout game one as the Saints top pitcher improved to 13-6 on the season after allowing one run on four hits in seven innings of work.
The Saints jumped out to an early, 5-0, lead through three innings, highlighted by Aubree Pocklington's two-run double in the third to give SMU a five-run lead.
WOU would manage its only run in the sixth as

Ashlie Gardner to cut the lead to 6-1.
The Saints would add a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on RBI hits by Munger and Taviah Jenkins as the Wolves would fall, 8-1.
Eryka Brill took the loss for WOU and fell to 2-2 on the season after allowing five earned runs on 12 hits in six innings of work.
In game two, WOU held an early lead and was tied at 5-5 in the sixth before Saint Martin's exploded for seven runs to grab control of the game.
After surrendering a run in the bottom of the first, Gardner tied the score for WOU in the second with a single through the right side, scoring
Danielle Harcourt to knot the score.
Lexi Orteza would then bring home
Ashley Cashin with a RBI double, giving the Wolves a 2-1 lead.
The Wolves added an unearned run in the third before SMU tied the game with a two-run home run by Joslyn Eugenio in the third to make the score 3-3.
After the teams traded a pair of runs over the next two innings, SMU put seven on the board in the sixth to grab control of the contest. Following two run hits by Christina Demar and Eugenio, Pocklington capped the scoring with a two run blast to left to give the Saints a 12-5 edge.
The Wolves managed a run in the seventh on a Cashin single; however, it would not be enough as the Saints took two and split the season series with WOU.
Cashlin led the way for the Wolves in game two with three hits while Harcourt added three runs for the Wolves.
Hannah Pomeroy took the loss and fell to 10-7 on the season after allowing nine earned runs in 5.2 innings while Munger picked up her second win of the day to improve to 14-6 overall.
WOU will return to action when the Wolves travel to Burnaby, B.C., for a doubleheader against Simon Fraser on Saturday, April 20, at 1:00 p.m.
