MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon softball team closed out the regular season with a sweep of Central Washington as the Wolves defeated the Wildcats, 4-3, in game one before a 4-1 victory in game two. With the wins, WOU closes out the regular season with a 27-24 overall mark, 16-8 in league play, while CWU stands at 19-16 overall, 13-9 in GNAC action.
Amanda Evola broke a 3-3 tie in game one as she laced a double that deflected off of the CWU starting pitcher and into left field, allowing

Senior pitcher
Hannah Pomeroy slammed the door shut on the Wildcats in the seventh as she improved to 14-7 on the year after allowing three runs on six hits while tossing a complete game.
CWU grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second inning before the Wolves responded with three unanswered runs. Hannan recorded a RBI groundout to tie the score as
Jourdan Williams and Dani Harcourt delivered RBI singles in the third to give the Wolves a 3-1 lead.
CWU tied the score with a two run blast by Elena Carter in the fifth as the Wildcats threatened to take the lead in the sixth, loading the bases with only one out. Pomeroy responded; however, striking out Alexa Olague and Rachel O'Neill to keep the game knotted at 3-3.
Maria Gau took the loss for CWU and fell to 8-10 on the season after allowing two earned runs on five hits in six innings of work.
Evola led the way with two hits for WOU while Maikala Galusha had two hits to lead the Wildcats attack.
In game two, Williams tossed her second outstanding game of the weekend as she tossed a complete game win, allowing only one run on six hits to even her record at 9-9.
The Wildcats grabbed the early lead with a run in the fourth; however, the Wolves answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
Harcourt tied the game with a single to score Hannan as
Elaine Sperry followed with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring
Desiree Villegas from third to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead.
Bridjet Box added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth as she laced a RBI double to left-center field with two outs, scoring
Melanie Pfeiffer and
Lexi Orteza as the Wolves carried a three-run lead into the final two innings.
The Wildcats would be unable to find an answer as Heidy Wells took the loss for CWU, falling to 9-4 on the year after allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings of work.
Pfeiffer had three hits to lead the WOU attack while Amanda Hamada posted three hits to lead the Wildcats.
The day started with a special senior day ceremony as
Lexi Orteza, Pomeroy and Villegas were honored before first pitch.
The wins gave WOU its seventh win in the last eight contest as the Wolves are guaranteed to finish no lower than second-place in the conference standings. WOU still has a shot at a share of the regular season title; however, will need CWU to sweep a pair of games from Saint Martin's on Sunday.
WOU will return to action on Thursday, May 2, when the Wolves travel to the GNAC Softball Championship to play an opponent to be determined. The winner of the GNAC tournament will earn the league's automatic bid into the NCAA West Regional Softball Championship.
