Busy weekend slated for SB at Tournament of Champions

Wolves travel to Turlock and will play at least six games in the annual tournament.

MONMOUTH, Ore.- The Western Oregon softball team returns to action this week as they travel to Turlock, Calif., to participate in the Tournament of Champions as they open up the tournament on Friday, April 5, with games against Simon Fraser at 9:00 a.m. and Cal-State Stanislaus at 1:30 p.m.

The Wolves enter the tournament with a record of 18-17 overall and 9-5 in GNAC play after splitting their four game series against MSU Billings last week.

The Wolves, who lead the conference with 182 runs scored and are fifth in batting average (.284), are lead at the plate by Amanda Evola and Jourdan Williams. Evola, who leads WOU in batting average (.385), also leads the team in slugging pct. (.688) and home runs with six. Williams, who is second in batting average (.380), leads the team with a .448 on base pct. and 29 RBI's.

In the circle, the Wolves are lead by Hannah Pomeroy, who is 9-4 with a 3.36 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 89.2 innings pitched. The Wolves pitching staff is fourth in the GNAC in ERA (4.05) and third in opposing batting average (.290) and strikeouts (103) in 230 innings pitched.

Simon Fraser enters the tournament at 16-14 overall and 11-4 in conference play after sweeping a doubleheader last week against Northwest Nazarene and splitting a doubleheader against Central Washington.

The Clan, who are sixth in the GNAC in batting (.280), are lead at the plate by Kaitlyn Cameron, who is batting .347 with a .507 slugging pct. Kelsey Hawkins leads the team in the circle as she is 9-4 with a 2.24 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 87.1 innings pitched. The Clan have a strong pitching staff this season, leading the conference with 156 strikeouts and are second in ERA (3.13) and opposing batting average (.252) in 190.1 innings pitched.

Cal-State Stanislaus enters the tournament at 11-21 overall and 6-18 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. They are currently on an eight game losing streak after they were swept in their four game series last week against Sonoma State.

At the plate, the Warriors, who bat .249 as a team, are lead by Lauren Liming, who is batting .333 with three home runs. On the mound, they are lead by Natalie Rendon, who is 4-9 with a 4.85 ERA in 83.2 innings pitched. As a team, the Warriors pitching staff has a 4.96 ERA.

Following the opening of the tournament on Friday, the Wolves continue tournament play with three games on Saturday, April 6. Their first game is at 8:45 a.m. against Hawaii Pacific, followed by Somona State at 11:15 a.m. before closing the day against Notre Dame de Namur at 4:30 p.m.
