TURLOCK, Calif. – The Western Oregon softball team dropped its first two games at the Tournament of Champions on Saturday as the Wolves fell to Hawaii Pacific, 5-1, before dropping a 7-1 decision to No. 16 Sonoma State. With the losses, WOU falls to 19-20 on the season.
In game one against HPU, the Wolves fell behind early as Chante Tesoro's single to center field scored Celina Garces in the third inning to give the Sea Warriors a 1-0 lead.
WOU answered quickly in the next inning as

Jourdan Williams tied the score at 1-1.
The Sea Warriors had an answer; however, with a run in the bottom of the inning and broke the game open with a three-run sixth to take a 5-1 lead into the final inning. Tesoro and Tony Baysa each had RBI doubles for HPU in the sixth as the Sea Warriors would go on to claim the four run win.
Kristen Caskey picked up the win for HPU and moved to 10-5 on the season after allowing one run on six hits in the complete game win.
Eryka Brill took the loss for WOU and fell to 1-1 on the year after allowing two earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work.
Williams led WOU with two hits while Tesoro and Baysa each had two hits for the Sea Warriors.
In game two, Sonoma State starting pitcher Amanda Llerena held the Wolves at bay as she allowed only two hits and one run to pick up the win and move to 13-5 on the season.
Amanda Evola provided the only run for the Wolves in game two as her home run to centerfield in the sixth inning made the score 7-1. The blast was the eighth of the season for the sophomore outfielder as she would have the only two hits for the Wolves against SSU.
Nationally-ranked SSU jumped out to a 7-0 lead, highlighted by a four-run, fifth inning. Hayley Condon, Holli Brown and Keisi Chinen each had RBI singles during the rally as the Seawolves grabbed a commanding lead.
Williams took the loss for WOU and fell to 6-10 on the year after allowing five earned runs in six innings of work.
WOU will close out round robin action at the Tournament of Champions when the Wolves face Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday at approximately 4:30 p.m.
