MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon football team returns to action this week as the Wolves open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play when they travel to Ellensburg, Wash., to face Central Washington on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1:00 p.m.

WOU enters the contest with a mark of 0-1 on the season after falling to Eastern Washington, 43-14, to open play in 2013.

Sophomore quarterback Ryan Bergman led the WOU attack, going 20-of-42 for 189 yards and two touchdowns while Nathan Penaranda led the Wolves rushing attack with 42 yards on six carries.

On the defensive side of the ball, Devin Wells made twelve stops for WOU while Devin Chappell and AJ Hull each recorded interceptions against the Eagles high-octane offense.

Central Washington also enters 0-1 on the year after the Wildcats fell to Texas A&M-Kingsville, 21-14. Jordon Todd led the CWU attack, rushing for 119 yards on 28 carries with a touchdown while quarterback Justin Lane threw for just 86 yards, going 9-for-20 with an interception.

Defensively, CWU held TAMU-Kingsville to 356 yards of total offense, limiting the Javelinas to just 3.5 yards per carry.

The Wildcats hold a 32-17 edge in the all-time series against the Wolves after claiming a pair of close victories a year ago. CWU defeated WOU in Monmouth, 21-14 in overtime, before sweeping the Wolves with a 36-32 win in Ellensburg.

Following the conference-opening contest, WOU will return to Monmouth for the home opener when the Wolves face Dixie State on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1:00 p.m.
