Soccer fights to scoreless draw against Dominican

Wolves draw for second consecutive match.

Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – For the second time in three games, the Western Oregon soccer team recorded a shutout as the Wolves fought to a 0-0, double overtime draw against Dominican on Thursday. With the tie, WOU moves to 1-0-2 on the season while Dominican improved to 1-2-1.
 
In a balanced contest, neither team could find the net as both teams connected on eight shots and two shots on goal during the contest.
 
Amanda Rose Johnson recorded her first career shutout in a WOU uniform as she played all 110 minutes in net, recording two saves. Johnson did not have to make a save until the first overtime as Dominican was held without a shot on target during the first 90 minutes.
 
Megan Herring made two saves in net for Dominican.
 
Taija Bjorgo led the WOU attack with four shots while Stephanie Pawek had three shots for Dominican.
 
The match marked the second consecutive contest the Wolves have fought to a draw, marking the first time WOU has had back-to-back ties since the 2009 season.
 
WOU will conclude the three-match California road swing when the Wolves travel to Oakland, Calif., to face Holy Names on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11:00 a.m.
