Volleyball closes out Oredigger Classic with losses

Wolves fall to Texas Woman's University and nationally-ranked Washburn.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. – The Western Oregon volleyball team closed out the Oredigger Classic on Saturday, falling to Texas Woman's, 3-1 (27-25, 18-25, 22-25, 23-25) before dropping a 3-0 (15-25, 20-25, 10-25) decision to No. 6 Washburn. With the losses, WOU falls to 3-6 on the season.

In the opening match against TWU, the Wolves managed to grab the first set before dropping three straight to close out the contest.

WOU was unable to effective attack TWU as the Wolves were held to a .085 attack percentage. Christe Colasurdo and Kelsie Christensen led WOU with 10 kills apiece while Jordan Ramos added 21 assists.

The Wolves were effective on the defensive side, limiting TWU to just a .138 attack percentage while Becky Blees added five blocks.

TWU responded with 19.0 team blocks as Jacqueline Santos led the way with 12.

Tate Chloe' and Mallory Kuechle led TWU with 11 kills each in the victory.

In the match against Washburn to close out the tournament, WOU was unable to get anything going against the Lady Blues in the straight-set defeat.

Washburn hit .317 for the match as Corrine Stringer led the Lady Blues with 15 kills.

Colasurdo led WOU with seven kills as the Wolves hit .078 for the match.

WOU will return to action when the Wolves open conference play on Thursday, Sept. 19, as they host Central Washington at 7:00 p.m.
