MONMOUTH, Ore. – After opening the season with a pair of road contests, the Western Oregon football team returns to McArthur Field as the Wolves host Dixie State in the 2013 home opener on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1:00 p.m.
"We are excited to come back home and play against a good Dixie State team," head coach
Arne Ferguson said. "The team has been working hard to improve each and every day and I know they are looking forward to playing in front of the home crowd for the first time."
WOU enters the contest with a mark of 0-2 on the season after falling to Central Washington, 20-7, in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener last week. The defense was stellar in defeat; however, limiting CWU to just 242 total yards of offense and 3.6 yards per play.
Coulter Mastenbroek and
Devin Wells have led the defensive efforts in 2013 as each have recorded 16 tackles through the first two games. Meanwhile,
Glen Moa leads the Wolves with 1.5 tackles for a loss.
On the offensive side of the ball,
Ryan Bergman has taken every snap for the Wolves at quarterback, going 47-of-92 for 440 yards and two touchdowns while Nathan Penaranda leads the team in rushing, averaging 27.0 yards per game.
Dixie State enters the contest with a mark of 0-2 on the year, 0-1 in league play, after the Red Storm dropped a 36-20 decision to Azusa Pacific last week. Geoff Robles leads DSC in passing, averaging 227.0 yards per contest as he has thrown three touchdowns to just one interception this season.
On defense, Dixie State is allowing 483.5 yards per game while allowing 38 points per contest.
Tickets to the home opener are $15 for reserved and $12 for adult general admission. Senior and non-WOU student general admission is $10 and WOU students are admitted for free with a valid student identification card.
