MONMOUTH, Ore. – Fresh off its first victory of the season, the Western Oregon football team returns to action this week as the Wolves travel to Burnaby, B.C., for a meeting with Simon Fraser on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 12:30 p.m.

WOU enters the Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest with a record of 1-2 after a convincing, 51-32, victory over Dixie State last week. Quarterback Ryan Bergman threw for 417 yards and tied a school record with six touchdowns as the signal-caller connected on touchdown throws of 34, 1, 12, 76, 9 and 20-yards as the Wolves gained 509 yards of total offense against the Red Storm. For his performance, Bergman earned Red Lion GNAC Athlete of the Week honors.

The quarterback leads an offensive attack that ranks third in the conference in scoring at 24.0 points per game while averaging 340.3 yards of total offense. Bergman ranks fourth in the league in total offense at 274.0 yards per contest while leading the league in passing with 285.7 yards per game. Bergman's favorite target during the early part of the season has been wide receiver Tyrell Williams as he leads the conference with 87.3 yards per game.

Defensively, WOU is allowing 31.7 points per contest and ranks fourth in the league in total defense, allowing 429.7 yards per contest. Shane Kuenzi leads the defense as the sophomore linebacker ranks fifth in the league with 8.0 tackles per game.

The Wolves will face an undefeated Simon Fraser squad as the Clan enter the week with a 2-0 overall and league mark after a win at Central Washington last week.

The Clan feature one of the best offenses in the league as Simon Fraser leads the GNAC at 31.0 points per game and 459.5 yards of total offense per contest. Quarterback Ryan Stanford is the catalyst as the junior tops the league in total offense at 313.5 yards per game.

On the defensive side of the ball, Simon Fraser ranks third in the league, allowing 20.5 points per game while allowing 359.5 yards per contest.

WOU holds the edge in the all-time series, 16-10, after the Wolves picked up a pair of wins over the Clan a season ago.

Following the contest, WOU will return home to face Azusa Pacific at McArthur Field on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1:00 p.m.
