Soccer unable to contain No. 2 Western Washington

Wolves hang tough against second-ranked Vikings as Wolves fall, 2-0.

Box Score BELLINGHAM, Was. – The Western Oregon women's soccer team battled the No. 2 team in the nation; however, the Wolves ultimately fell to Western Washington, 2-0, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, WOU fell to 3-2-2 on the season, 1-2-0 in GNAC play, while WWU remained perfect at 6-0-0 overall, 3-0-0 in conference action.

A strong WOU defense allowed only six shots on goals by the Vikings; however, WWU managed to connect on two occasions to secure the victory.

Catherine Miles connected on her fourth goal of the year in the 29th-minute to give the Vikings the lead before Erin Russell's goal in the 54th-minute capped the scoring in the contest.

WOU managed three shots, including one on goal, as the Wolves conceded multiple goals for the first time this season.

Amanda Rose Johnson made four saves for the Wolves while Alyssa Beauchamp made one stop in net while recording the shutout victory.

Despite being out-shot 16-3, the Wolves held a decided edge in corner kicks, 4-2.

WOU will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 28, as the Wolves travel to Burnaby, B.C., to face Simon Fraser at 5:00 p.m.
