MONMOUTH, Ore. – Sophomore
Allison Frost recorded her first career points, scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist, as the Western Oregon soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Trinity Lutheran in the 2013 season opener on Friday.
"After a long preseason, it was nice to go out and face real competition," head coach
Steve Ancheta said. "I thought we did a good job of controlling possession and we were able to convert on our chances in the first half and put the game away."
Frost was the story for the Wolves as she became the first WOU player to record a pair of goals in a game since Marina Austin netted two against Northwest Nazarene.
Although Frost's career game was the highlight for the Wolves, newcomer
Taylor Higa provided the game-winner as she connected on a curling, 20-yard shot in the 10th minute for the first goal of the contest.
Of a give-and-go down the right side from
Rachel Crawford, Higa found space just outside the box and slotted it past the keeper for the game-winner.
From there, Frost got involved for the first time as she connected with
Makana Pundyke in the 35th minute to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead. Off the pass from Frost, Pundyke found the lower corner of the net for her third career goal as the Wolves grabbed control of the contest.
Frost would do the rest, scoring a goal in the 36th minute before tapping in a cross from
Taija Bjorgo in the 45th as the Wolves took a commanding, 4-0 lead into halftime.
WOU would put on the brakes in the second half, focusing on possession as the Wolves claimed the shutout win.
Hillary Lutz and
Amanda Rose Johnson combined on the shutout as WOU outshot the Eagles, 21-4.
Carly Moberg made eight saves in goal in the loss as Alick Chich led TLU with two shots.
WOU returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 11, as the Wolves open a seven-game road trip against San Francisco State at 4:00 p.m.
