Volleyball comes up just short against Mavericks

Wolves fall in five sets for the second straight evening.

Box Score MONMOUTH, Ore. – For the second consecutive evening, the Western Oregon volleyball team dropped a hard-fought, five-set decision as the Wolves fell to Minnesota State, 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 8-15) in the finale of the WOU Invitational on Saturday night. With the loss, WOU falls to 2-2 on the season while Minnesota State improves to 3-1 overall.

After the team split the first four sets, Minnesota State broke a 4-4 tie in the deciding third set with four straight points to grab control of the match. The Mavericks would go on to win the deciding set, 15-8, as Tiana Runck led the MSU attack with 16 kills.

Christie Colasurdo had a career night for the Wolves in the loss, finishing with a double-double, leading WOU with 18 digs and 10 kills.

The redshirt freshman was one of three WOU players with double-figure kills as Hannah Deede connected on 15 kills with Cherene O'Hara providing 12 kills and 15 points.

Jordin Ramos had 22 assists for WOU while Ellie Van De Steeg of Minnesota State led all players with 43 assists.

WOU will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 11, when the Wolves host Willamette at 7:00 p.m.
