MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Simon Fraser University volleyball team won their third straight match, defeating Western Oregon University in four sets Saturday, 25-19, 17-25, 18-25 and 22-25.
The Clan (12-5, 6-3 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) dropped set one to the Wolves, but rallied back to win the next three.
SFU had a trio of attackers who finished with double-digit kills. Amanda Renkema led the team with 14 kills. She also added two block assists and ended with a .303 attack percentage. Christine Howlett had 12 kills and a team-best .393 attack percentage. Mackenzie Dunham added 10 kills.
Brooklynn Gould-Bradbury led the Clan with 21 assists. She also totaled 16 digs. Danielle Curtis had 17 assists and digs, while Alison McKay paced SFU with 21 digs.
The Wolves (2-15, 0-9 GNAC) held an advantage over the Clan in most major statistical categories, but it was not enough to end their eight-game losing streak. WOU led with an overall attack percentage of .140 to .121 for the match. They also had an advantage in digs, assists, kills and team blocks.
The match had 23 tie scores with 10 coming in the fourth set and nine total lead changes. Western made eight service errors to the Clan's two.
The Wolves next hit the road, traveling to Ellensburg, Wash. to take on Central Washington University Thursday. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on WOUWolves.com.
