BELLINGHAM, Wash. – After going the distance two nights ago against Simon Fraser, Western Oregon University's volleyball team was swept by No. 9-ranked Western Washington University, 3-0 (10-25, 14-25, 19-25), in Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday inside Sam Carver Gymnasium.
Western Oregon (4-20, 2-14 GNAC) was led by
Sam Moore with five kills, while
Cherene O'Hara and
Lani Kalalau added four kills each.
Hannah Deede and
Alisha Bettinson chipped in with three kills each, while
Kiana Cash handed out eight assists to go along with
Jordin Ramos' seven assists. Defensively,
Christie Colasurdo led all players with a match-high 25 digs with
Maddi Ober adding a match-high tying four blocks at the net for the Wolves.
Kayla Erickson led Western Washington (19-6, 12-4 GNAC) with a match-high 19 kills, while Kelsey Moore also registered double-digits in kills with 11. Taylor Dillard handed out a match-high 41 assists for the Vikings, while Samantha Hutchinson tallied a team-high 16 digs defensively for WWU. At the net, Erickson and Joellee Buckner registered a match-high tying four blocks each.
Over the opening two sets, Western Oregon was held under .100 hitting (9-12-60) before the Wolves tallied a combined 12 kills compared to only four hitting errors in the third and final set en route to ending match with a hitting percentage of .050 (21-16-100).
On the other hand, Western Washington registered at least 16 kills in each set en route to the Vikings registering a hitting percentage of .313 (52-12-128).
Overall, Western Oregon registered 8.5 blocks compared to Western Washington's 8.0 total blocks. The Vikings tallied a combined 61 digs versus WOU's 53.
Western Oregon will begin its final weekend of the season when the Wolves take on Seattle Pacific University on Thursday, November 13, beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the New P.E. Building.
