LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Western Oregon University softball team finished the fifth annual Desert Stinger tournament with a 12-9 come-from-behind victory over Black Hills State (S.D.) Sunday.

The Wolves (2-7) won two of their five games at the tournament. In the win over BHSU, Raina Reece went 2-for-3 with six RBI. Amanda Evola went 4-for-4. Jourdan Williams (2-1) picked up her second victory of the season.

After giving up a three-run home run in the top of the first inning, Western Oregon responded with an Evola solo home run in the bottom of the first. The Yellow Jackets tacked on three more runs in the second inning.

Trailing 6-1, WOU evened the score with a five-run third inning. Kelsie Gardner opened the bottom half of the inning with a home run. Following an Evola double, Reece hit a three-run shot over the center field fence. Ashley Cashin singled through the right side for the game-tying RBI. Black Hills State answered with a run in the next inning, but three more Western Oregon runs gave the Wolves their first lead. Reece and Ashlie Gardner both had RBI in the fourth.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bridjet Box brought in Kelsie Gardner with a single up the middle. Reece then singled down the left field line, scoring Box and Evola. BHSU scored two runs in the top of the seventh to complete the scoring.

Western Oregon returns to play at the St. Mary's Round Robin tournament on Feb. 21. The Wolves face Tarleton State (Texas) in the first of six games over the three-day span.
