GNAC WEEKLY RELEASE
MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon University softball team welcomes Saint Martin's University (Wash.) and Central Washington for a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.
The Wolves (15-10, 6-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) sit atop the GNAC standings, but only a half-game ahead of Saint Martin's and two games in front of CWU. Western Oregon enters the week on a conference-high eight game win streak. WOU is in familiar position as it began the 2013 conference schedule at 6-0 on an eight game win streak.
Western Oregon's
Melanie Pfeiffer rides a 14-game hit streak into the big weekend. The senior's .433 batting average is third in the conference. Her 27 runs lead the GNAC.
Saint Martin's second baseman Lacey McGladrey had 11 hits last week, increasing her career total to 203. She is the 11th player in GNAC history to record 200 or more career base hits. She also has 300 career total bases. That is the ninth highest total in GNAC history. Saints' pitcher Sam Munger has 48 career wins putting her into a six-way tie for fourth place on the GNAC career list.
The Wolves will wear pink on Sunday against Central Washington in support of breast cancer awareness. Admission to the game is by donation, and all donations will go to a WOU cancer support group.
Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., while Sunday's start is scheduled for 12 p.m. Live video and stats for both doubleheaders will be available on WOUWolves.com. Friday's doubleheader will also be available throughout the Willamette Valley on KWVT.
