TURLOCK, Calif. – The Western Oregon University softball team ended the Tournament of Champions presented by Turlock CVB with a loss in the consolation bracket semifinals Sunday.
 
The Wolves (25-14) won their consolation bracket opening game over Cal State-Dominguez Hills, 2-1, before falling to Cal State-San Bernardino, 3-1. Ashlie Gardner and Melanie Pfeiffer both had a pair of hits on a day when WOU only had 10 combined hits.
 
In the first game of the day, Kelli Demianew (10-6) threw all seven innings and gave up no earned runs on two hits. She struck out four Toros and walked one. The junior allowed only two earned runs in 20 innings of work during the tournament. She had a 0.70 earned run average and won two of her three decisions in the circle.
 
Raina Reece opened the scoring against Cal State-Dominguez Hills in the second inning when she crossed home plate on a Toro error. In the fourth inning, CSUDH tied the score after an RBI double. Emma Alfonso hit the winning RBI single and scored Amanda Evola.
 
In the semifinals against Cal State-San Bernardino, the Wolves got in a 3-0 hole. The Coyotes scored a run in the first inning, and neither team crossed the plate until CSUSB scored two more runs in the sixth. Jamie Martin hit a solo home run in the seventh inning for WOU.
 
Eryka Brill (7-4) had the loss for Western Oregon. She allowed three earned runs on six hits. Brill struck out two Coyotes and walked one in six innings.
 
Western Oregon returns to Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Friday at Western Washington. The Wolves are three conference wins away from clinching a berth in the GNAC tournament. Live stats will be available from the WWU doubleheader on WOUWolves.com.
