FULL NOTES (PDF)SEASIDE, Calif. -- After falling to the top-seed and host Cal State-Monterey Bay, the Western Oregon University softball team faces a must-win situation in the first elimination game at the NCAA Div. II West Region 1 tournament. The eighth-seeded Wolves square off against Sonoma State, the fifth-seed, in the four-team sub-region field. Western Oregon finds itself in the loser bracket in the double-elimination tournament that runs through Saturday in Seaside, Calif.
LAST TIME OUT• Western Oregon managed just three hits off Cal State Monterey Bay pitcher Cori Reinhardt in losing 3-1 to the Otters in their opening game of the NCAA West Regionals at Otter Sports Complex Thursday.

Melanie Pfeiffer went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a game-opening ground-rule double.
•
Kelli Demianew was credited with the loss on the mound.
BACK TO THE POSTSEASON• Western Oregon returns to the NCAA regional field for the first time since 2008, when it dropped two games at Humboldt State.
• The Wolves all-time NCAA regional record is 0-3.
• WOU is 24-28 all-time in the postseason, but this is only the third time since 2001 that its has advanced to the postseason.
• Western Oregon is 6-6 in the postseason since it has joined the NCAA. • Until this year, WOU had not won a postseason game since 2008.
CHAMPION CHATTER• Western Oregon won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular season title for the second time in program history.
• The Wolves won the GNAC Tournament for the first time ever.
• The Wolves also claimed the conference crown in 2008 when it went 33-18 overall and advanced to the NCAA West Region Championships.
• This year's WOU squad matched the 2008 team's 33 wins for most in a single season. This season's team also matched 2008's 18-6 conference finish, the best in GNAC records in program history.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING• The Wolves are eighth in NCAA Div. II averaging 0.52 double plays.

Kelli Demianew leads the GNAC with a 1.88 ERA. Her four shutouts also top the conference.
• In the GNAC,
Amanda Evola is third with a .408 batting average.
Melanie Pfeiffer and
Kelsie Gardner are fifth and eighth.
• Those three are first, second, and third in total hits; Evola (80), Pfeiffer (76), and Gardner (71). They also lead the conference in runs scored; Gardner (56), Evola (53), and Pfeiffer (49).
• Evola's 16 doubles, 53 RBI, and 120 total bases pace the GNAC as well.
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOK• Western Oregon has turned 26 double plays this season, breaking the previous program record for the most in a single season set in 2012.

Amanda Evola is currently first in highest career batting average in program history at .398. She broke the RBI in a season this year.
• Evola has the most hits a single season with 80 this year.

Kelsie Gardner is currently first in the program's most runs scored in a single season at 56. Evola and
Melanie Pfeiffer are right behind.
•
Melanie Pfeiffer's 198 at-bats broke the record for most in a year. Evola is in second at 196.
